The website is affiliated with–you guessed it–the Smithsonian Museum, and it houses photos from events, exhibits, and historical collections. You’ll find a wide array of powerful and poignant images chronicling American culture and society. You can download, browse, and purchase photos, and create portfolios for sharing–but note that all images offered on this site are intended only for educational or personal use. In addition to selling prints (prices vary from photo to photo), Smithsonian Images has migrated 6,000 images onto Flickr for general viewing pleasure.
