Thanks to the helpful hands at the New York Center for Independent Publishing, you don’t have to go big to get that great work of literature out of your desk drawer. A unique publishing and literary organization, NYCIP has been tending the spirit of literary independence for over two decades, sponsoring year-round public programs that include writing and publishing workshops, lectures, book fairs, exhibits and an extensive collection of reference materials. With its ever-expanding calendar of events, NYCIP also offers extensive publisher membership benefits, an invaluable networking resource for independent publishers and industry insiders alike. A recent visit to their annual December Independent and Small Press Book Fair gleefully depleted my bank account, but recharged my belief that great and challenging work is being done outside of the big houses—further proof that any win for the little guy enriches us all.
