There are plenty of Twitter desktop apps out there, but how many can really call themselves true microblogging apps? twhirl can. Like plenty of other Twitter apps out there, it uses Adobe AIR, a format designed for Internet applications, and it does everything you would expect from a Twitter app (the pop-up notifications of new tweets are particularly helpful, so you can stay updated even if the program is minimized). Where it really sets itself apart is in its support of multiple microblogging services. Twitter might be the most talked-about site right now, but there are plenty of other sites making names for themselves in the world of microblogging — like Jaiku, FriendFeed and identi.ca, which are all supported on twhirl. It doesn’t matter if you need support for multiple Twitter accounts or accounts on multiple services, twhirl has your microblogging needs covered.
