PostSecret

“Libraries make me have to poop.” “Everyone who knew me before 9/11 believes I’m dead.” “The neater your handwriting, the better care I take of your insurance policies.” These are some of the secrets divulged through PostSecret, an art project that grew out of fascination with the secrecy of human lives. PostSecret began as an art experiment for creator Frank Warren. In 2004, he asked people to send him their secrets, anonymously and creatively, on postcards. The cards haven’t stopped coming, and every Sunday the PostSecret blog is updated with new secrets. They range from heartwarming to heartbreaking, but they’re always fascinating, as people find creative ways to spell out their confessions. Warren has begun updating the blog with e-mails and letters from readers who can identify or have been helped by secrets they’ve read, and PostSecret has now grown into a cultural phenomenon, spawning four books (with more on the way) and countless exhibitions around the country.
