There’s a fair amount of debate regarding this suggestion, but it’s worth saying anyway: Try not to have lengthy @reply conversations on Twitter. Unless you and your conversation partner both check Twitter regularly, it can become difficult to keep track of conversations via @replies, especially on the Twitter homepage. Some Twitter applications and tools give you the ability to see the entire conversation separate from the rest of your timeline, but not everyone has that option. Keep that in mind and try not to continue your @reply conversations for too long. Brevity is best. If it starts getting confusing, it might be a good idea to switch to a direct message. Or an email. Or, dare we say it, a phone conversation? No one wants to read too much on Twitter; that’s the beauty of the site.
