President Obama made history with his election, but he also marked a significant accomplishment when he became the first president to use Twitter. In fact, Obama was tweeting from the campaign trail before he ever won the presidential election. Granted, very few of the tweets are actually written by Obama himself, but the fact remains that he is the first president to utilize social media from the very beginning of his presidency to directly reach the people, and that’s certainly worth noting. Tweet topics include legislation progression, videos and website links on health care, energy and the economy. One can’t help but wonder if perhaps Obama has created a new precedent for governmental communication in the future.
